About Us
This wonderful breed entered my life while I was showing hunters/jumpers. Pembroke Corgis were a popular stable dog. Although in retrospect, those Corgis were not great examples of the breed, I thought they were delightful so we quickly had a Corgi family of three soon after college graduation. My husband, Doug, and I have been immersed in the Corgi show world ever since.
I finished my first AKC Champion in 1986 and bred my first litter in 1987. That litter contained my first homebred Champion, AKC Ch. Bramblyhedge Alyssum. She won large classes at both the National and Lakeshore Specialities & that result hooked me solidly on showing.
Luckily, I've been able to import some lovely dogs over the years. Belroyd Umbretta, ("Bluebelle"), was one of the dearest dogs I've ever owned and she produced "Geena", AKC Ch. Bramblyhedge Bewitched. Geena was Winners Bitch at the 1994 PWCCA National Specialty over an entry of almost 250 class bitches! She was also Best in Sweeps, Best Puppy and Reserve Winners Bitch at Lakeshore that same year. Shown only five times, she completed her AKC championship by winning the Herding Group at Waukesha Kennel Club over a group entry of 700+ dogs.
My two most recent Champions are litter sisters by Ch. Ninacorte Chicago Hope, a Ch. Renefield Sportscaster son, by frozen semen. Ch. Bramblyhedge Tupelo Honey, Taggie and Ch. Bramblyhedge Brass in Pocket, Teensy, finished quickly with Specialty Best Puppy and Best in Sweepstakes awards and majors from supported entries, Teensy was shown at only six all breed shows & finished with five majors. Taggie was shown at fewer than a dozen All breed shows & finished with 5 point BOB over several specials. As always, they were breeder/owner handled.
When I breed a litter, which is fairly infrequently, I ensure all pertinent health checks on the parents and the puppies, including OFA hip and CERF eye exams.
Judging has enhanced my enjoyment of this breed and I just judged the Sweepstakes classes for the Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club of America in September of 2017 - an unforgettable experience! I'd previously judged for Corgi Specialty Clubs in Canada, New England, Oregon, Florida, Massachusetts and North Carolina, as well as Lakeshore. I've even been so honored to judge the 2007 South Wales Kennel Club Open Show in the United Kingdom.
I am now AKC approved for Pembroke Welsh Corgis & Permit for Cardigan Welsh Corgis.
